Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have revealed Archie's favourite words are "drive safe" during their interview with Oprah Winfrey, which aired in the US on Sunday evening.

Speaking about their son Archie, who turns two in May, the couple said one of his favourite words is "hydrate" as well as the phrase "drive safe".

"In the past couple weeks, it's been 'hydrate,' which is just hysterical!" Meghan, 39, told Oprah.

Prince Harry, 36, added: "But also, any time anyone leaves the house, he's like, 'Drive safe!' Drive safe! He's not even two yet."

Speaking about raising Archie away from the spotlight, Harry added: "I guess, the highlight for me is sticking him on the back of the bicycle in his little baby seat and taking him on these bike rides, which is something I was never able to do when I was young.

"I can see him on the back, and he's got his arms out. And he's like 'whoo' chatting, chatting, chatting, going, 'palm tree, house,' and all this sort of stuff."

The couple also shared new footage of little Archie. The adorable clip shows the toddler running along the beach in California with Meghan and the family pup.

And social media users were particularly moved by Archie's use of the words 'drive safe', with some drawing connections between the tragic death of his grandmother, Princess Diana.

"Not to be macabre but Archie saying 'drive safe' to his mom and dad whenever they leave the house... it's so adorable but when you look at it through the Diana context and the current situation and it's just horrifying," one person wrote.

While another added: "Whenever anyone leaves the house, Archie calls out 'drive safe'. They're saying this as a cute anecdote but I immediately thought of Diana."

"Got chills when Harry said Archie's favourite words are 'drive safe' whenever someone leaves the house," wrote a third.

During the Oprah interview - which will air in the UK on ITV on Monday evening, Meghan opened up about how she had felt suicidal during her time in the Royal Family.

She explained how, after confiding in Harry about how she was feeling, the couple were due to attend the premiere of Cirque du Soleil's Totem show at the Royal Albert Hall in January 2019, while she was pregnant with Archie.

"We had to go to this event and I remember him saying 'I don't think you can go' and I said I can't be left alone," she told Oprah.

"And we went, and that picture, if you zoom in, what I see, is how tightly his knuckles are gripped around mine, you can see the whites of our knuckles because we are smiling and doing our job, but we're both just trying to hold on.

"And every time those lights went down in the royal box, I was just weeping."
