Former Spice Girl Mel B has announced that she is entering a rehab facility to seek treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder.

Mel claims that she has been 'drinking to numb the pain' of an incredibly difficult past six months. The 43-year-old has been finalising her divorce from film producer Stephan Belafonte, a relationship which Mel claimed was 'abusive'.

However, Stephan was recently cleared of physically and verbally abusing Mel during their marriage.

A judge also refused to grant restraining orders that the pair had both filed against each other.

Mel was ordered to pay her ex-husband £270,000 in legal fees and more than £3,000 a month in child support.

The America's Got Talent judge told The Sun on Sunday that her divorce and father's death were the main reasons she was seeking treatment.

She explained: "I am fully aware I have been at a crisis point. No one knows myself better than I do - but I am dealing with it.

"I have made the decision to go into a proper therapy programme in the next few weeks, but it has to be in the UK because I am very, very British and I know that will work best for me."

Mel added: "If I can shine a light on the issue of pain, PTSD and the things men and women do to mask it, I will do."

Mel also tweeted a link to an information page on PTSD with the caption 'knowledge is power' as well as a text message that her mum, Andrea, had shared about the singer deciding to seek help.

In the text message, Andrea said: "I'm so proud of my daughter. She has the courage to face her demons head on and deal with them. I know what hell she has been through and I know what trauma she has suffered and still suffers [sic].

"Do not judge because so many people have PTSD and try to numb the pain any way they can. I am proud of her honesty and I am proud my daughter speaks out on a subject that affects so many people [sic]."

Mel recently showed off the results of '£4,000 non-surgical facelift'.

The former Spice Girl showed off her dramatic new look at Simon Cowell's Walk of Fame star unveiling last week.

It is believed that Mel had her non-surgical facelift at Dr Nyla's clinic in Wilmslow, Cheshire, using a process that creates collagen and elastin in the skin, causing it to look much more youthful.
