The hacker who leaked Hollywood actress Jennifer Lawrence's nude pictures has been put behind bars for eight-months for the crime.

George Garofano was jailed for his involvement in stealing Jennifer's pictures from her iCloud while appearing in a court in Bridgeport, Connecticut on Thursday.

Garofana, 26, has also been accused of hacking into the private iClouds of over 200 people, including a number of other celebrities such as Kirsten Dunst and Kate Upton in 2014.

The hacker, who was one of four men arrested in the case, pleaded guilty in April. He asked for leniency in sentencing, stating that he 'faced a lifetime loss of rights because of the felony conviction'.

Authorities said that the group used a 'phishing scheme' through emails, pretending to be Apple to gain usernames and passwords to access iCloud accounts.

The other three men have already been jailed, each receiving sentences ranging between nine and 18 months in prison.

After his prison term, Garofano must serve three years of supervised released for his breach of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, as well as carry out 60 hours of community service.

Jennifer, who has starred in several Hollywood blockbusters such as The Hunger Games saga, told Vanity Fair that she had been the victim of a 'sex crime' at the time of the leak.

She explained: "Just because I'm a public figure, just because I'm an actress, does not mean that I asked for this.

"It does not mean that it comes with the territory. It's my body, and it should be my choice, and the fact that it is not my choice is absolutely disgusting. I can't believe that we even live in that kind of world."

Jennifer has also spoke out on how the iCloud hack impacted her mental health.

She told The Mirror earlier this year: "There was a long period when I didn't want to be seen sexually and I didn't want anybody to see my flesh.

"There were things that made me uncomfortable."
