Heartbreaking moment elderly sisters see each other for last time to say goodbye

This is the heart-wrenching moment two sisters see each other for what is likely the last time as travelling has become too much for them both.

Barbara Carolan, 94, and Shirley, 90, regularly met up over the years to catch up and chat.

But in more recent times, visits have become more difficult, with the two women living in different states.

The last time they were able to get together for a visit was three years ago.

However, the siblings wanted to make sure they squeezed in one last visit, so they could see each other face to face for what could be the last time.

In the footage, Barbara, also known as 'Gigi', who lives in New Hampshire USA, can be seen speaking to her sister, Shirley, who lives in Nevada, USA, and discussing that this will likely be the last time they see each other.

The emotional clip sees the sisters insisting that they will not ‘say goodbye’ to each other but simply ‘until we meet again’.

At the end of the clip, Gigi reveals that she had a ‘wonderful visit’ and made a vow with herself that she wouldn’t cry. The same can’t be said for me after watching the video, to be honest.

True to their word, as Gigi is being driven away she waves and tells her ‘baby sister’ ‘until we meet again’.

Stephanie Shively, 47, Barbara's daughter, shared this heart-warming video to encourage other people to rekindle relationships with long-lost family members.

She said: "I was inspired to film this for my kids to show them what sisterly love looks like. So many people who've seen it said it's encouraged them to reach out to family members and that life is so short."

"I brought Gigi to Nevada from New Hampshire because she and her sister hadn't seen each other in three years.

"They wanted to try and get one more visit together, as they are older and the trip is hard on them.

"They have done it back and forth many times in their life, but due to age and distance, it's the last one most likely. They used to see each other more often, but they haven't seen each other since 2020.

"This was so special to watch and see. I knew taking her to see her sister for what she calls 'her last time' was going to be special. I just had no idea how special until I captured the goodbye."
