Cafe sparks debate after customer paid ‘absolutely crazy’ amount for two iced coffees and breakfast

It's caused quite the stir online...

OK guys - there's no hiding from it. We're in a cost of living crisis and just about everything has gone up in price exponentially.

From rent and heating bills to the weekly food shop and even iced coffees - I'm sure we've all probably had our own mini heart attack at some point or another when it comes to checking our bank balance at the end of the month.

And the latest outrage has seen a cafe sparking a heated debate after one customer paid an 'absolutely crazy' amount for two iced coffees and some breakfast.

The Aussie customer was left totally reeling after being handed the receipt for their two egg and bacon rolls and two iced coffees at a beachside cafe in Darwin.

Now, I'm sure we've all let out a little gasp to find out we've been charged an extra 50p for oat milk or 80p for some flavoured syrup but this particular cafe took it to a whole new level.

The customer captioned the post: "For the doubters: yes, I really paid $77 for two egg and bacon rolls and two iced coffees at a Darwin beachside cafe yesterday.

"I know, I know… yet another 'eating out is expensive' post."

I would simply cry if I was handed this.

They also shared a snap of the receipt which saw two bacon and egg rolls with the addition of avocado cost setting them back a staggering $44.

And, as it that wasn't bad enough, the two iced coffees came to a total of $20 - with an extra $3 each for added ice cream.

Then, to top it all off, the customer had to fork out a a $7 Sunday surcharge - bringing the grand total to a steep $77 (around £40).

People couldn't wait to share their reactions to the cafe's pricing with many beyond stunned.

"Taking iced coffee to the whole new definition," slammed one Reddit user.

A second penned: "And the audacity to add a Sunday surcharge!"

"That’s why I don’t go out anymore," admitted a third, while a fourth chimed in: "That's a week's food for me!"

A fifth sympathised: "Maaaate... You got ripped off big time. That's not eating out is expensive. That's f**ked."

"If I saw prices like that at a cafe, I'd walk out immediately without ordering a thing," claimed someone else, while another echoed: "When presented with that price, I'd have just said no thanks, and walked straight out."

"That is absolutely crazy, were they any good at least??" asked one user to which the customer replied: "Yes! To be fair, it was really nice food - but I still had to do a double take when I saw the cost!"

Not surprised.
