A woman who was sterilised at the age of 24 claimed that the idea of getting pregnant was ‘pretty scary’ and has admitted she is happy that she’ll never become a mum.
Abby Ramsay said that giving birth was never on the cards for her because she 'wouldn’t be able to handle' becoming pregnant.
After having a negative experience with birth control and being unable to rely on condoms, she decided to take control of her life.
At just 18, she embarked on a journey to become sterilised.

As per Mayo Clinic, sterilisation or tubal ligation sees practitioners cutting, tying or burning fallopian tubes to permanently prevent pregnancy.
The tubal ligation process doesn’t affect your menstrual cycle, but does stop sperm from fertilising eggs.
Opening up about her decision, the Los Angeles native told the Daily Star that she realised ‘pretty early on’ that she didn’t see a family in her future.
She said: “I figured, if birth control is this bad, I absolutely would not be able to handle being pregnant.

“There are plenty of other reasons that I wouldn’t want to be pregnant, but that discovery kind of took it from 'I don’t want to' to 'I would not be able to'.”
However, as per MailOnline, it took her six years to find a doctor who was willing to complete the surgery on somebody so young.
It’s said that many medical experts had turned Abby away and claimed that she wanted to undergo an ‘unnecessary procedure’.

The American also claims many told her she should seek out a therapist instead.
Speaking on a TikTok video about her sterilisation journey, she said: “After about six years of trying... I finally found a doctor who listened! This goes out to all the ones who didn't.
“I’m excited to take control of my own body. I’m not a baby maker.”
In another video shared on the platform, the Californian admitted that she didn’t want to become a mum because she didn’t want to be ‘responsible for the integration of another human being into society with the goal of them being a separate entity from herself.’
After the surgery had taken place back in 2022, the actress told the Daily Star that she was 100 percent ‘confident’ that it had been the right decision.

She said: “I feel relief. I feel like once I heal up I can really start to experience life with one less thing to worry about.”
Abby, who is now engaged to be married to her long-term partner Kurt, said that she was supported in her decision to go ahead with sterilisation.
“My partner has been fantastic, and is so on board with it,” she explained. “He has been taking care of me throughout recovery.
“We talked about kids and life goals very early on in our relationship.”
