As much as a good city has its merits, nothing quite beats a seaside town. There's something delightfully liberating about having access to sea air and a beach whenever you want it. (Plus, the seafood is always top knotch.)

Now, we have a handy list of the best sea-fronting locations around the world for those who plan their holidays around their proximity to water - and how good they'll look on Instagram.

Yes, Topdeck Travel have listed the five best seaside locations from the 'gram. Because apparently that's a factor these days - who knew?!

I know what you're thinking: that you're about to hear about locations in far-flung exotic countries that take half a day to get to and a month's pack cheque in flights?

Wrong. Four out of five of these seaside locations are in Europe and just over two hours by place from our fine capital to reach. Take a look...

Manarola, Italy

Manarola is a beautiful coastal village located on the north-western coast of Italy, part of the Province of La Spezia. Instead of sandy beaches, you'll find jagged coastlines with stunning candy-coloured homes built down them.

The seaside spot, just a two hour flight to Pisa from London then a one and half hour drive, makes the perfect backdrop to your photos. Plus, Manarola is famous for its sweet Sciacchetrà wine. Make sure you don't miss it.

Tulum, Mexico

Slightly further afield is the stunning exotic beaches of Tulum, Mexico. Get there and you'll find a the Caribbean coastline adorned with tropical palm trees and crystal clear waters. What's not to love?

To make your Mexican beach dreams come true just fly to Cancun (roughly 10 hours) and then complete a two hour drive to Tulum and its gorgeous beaches.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Game of Thrones fans will know Dubrovnik as the backdrop to the epic fantasy drama. We mainly caught glimpses of the dense inner city at the Lannister's home, but it turns out the Croatian location has some gorgeous coastlines too.

Full of rich history, beautiful arching caves and stunning architecture, this ones sure to rake in the likes. To get there simply fly to its nearest airport Cilipi.

Nice, France

Home to movie stars and the rich and famous, Nice is truly one of France's most chic cities. Located on the famous French Riviera, you'll find beautiful views of the Med, endless stunning beaches and breathtaking blue water.

Plus: cheese and wine. Need we say more?

Simply hop on a plane and two hours later you'll be red wine ready.

Naxos, Greece

Naxo, the largest island of the Greek Cyclades, is known for its bright white seashore made up of stunning whitewashed houses and medieval Venetian mansions. AKA Insta grid perfection. It's also thought to be the home of Greek God Zeus back in the day. Well if it's good enough for a Greek god...

To get there, fly to Athens (which takes roughly 3 hours 40 minutes) and then. You can get a short domestic flight or a daily ferry.
