As far as relationship faux pas go, hoovering up your other half’s mum’s ashes might be up there, right?
Sure, forgetting an anniversary or never putting the bins out can be annoying, but usually it’s all stuff that can be rectified with a quick peck on the cheek.
But one bloke has found himself in truly deep water after making a HUGE mistake involving his fiancée’s mother’s remains.

Taking to Reddit to get the unbelievable scenario off her chest, the woman explained how she had kept the ashes in an urn in the apartment she shares with her husband-to-be.
One day, he was doing a deep clean and asked if he could clean the memorial she’d set up for mum, which was where the urn sat, but she said she’d do it instead.
However, he ‘ignored’ the request and chose to do it himself – not that he admitted it at first.
“When I got home things looked the same as I had left them,” the woman wrote.

“He apologized for being ‘uptight’ and said he didn’t touch anything.
“He said he was just feeling anxious before so there was no need for me to clean the memorial when it wasn’t even dirty. I didn’t think about it after that.”
A few months of him ‘acting weird’ passed by until he finally fessed up.

“Now he’s confessed that he actually did touch the urn,” she continued.
“He tried to ‘resist’ as long as he could but just wanted everything to be clean.
“[...] He said he finished, put the urn back on the memorial, and carelessly grabbed the bag to put it back.
“He couldn’t clearly explain what happened, but said the plastic somehow ripped and the ashes went all over the carpet.”

Feeling ‘scared’ at how she would react, he set about cleaning it up from the ‘shaggy carpet’.
“This man grabbed a vacuum and sucked up my mother,” she said.
“Then instead of returning them to the urn he dumped the vacuum contents into the trash.
“When I asked why he didn’t just return them to the urn after vacuuming he stared at the floor.”

It gets worse.
The next day, after reassuring her that he hadn’t touched the urn, he stopped off at their local park and ‘grabbed some play sand in a baggie so it was roughly the same weight as the original ashes’.
“His whole story is so weird,” she said, adding: “The ashes were a little coarse with bone fragments. He didn’t even try to grab some??
“He put my mom in the trash. I really hate him right now.
“I have nothing left but some play sand a 4 year old probably p**sed in.”
Naturally, many people were equally as stunned by what happened as she was, with many calling on the woman to dump the guy.
"Your mother , in her death, saved you from marrying this dogs**t," one wrote, not mincing their words.
"It is her wonderful gift to you. Her ashes saved you from committing to a man that will make your life a living hell.
"Plant a tree in a special place and dedicate it to her memory. Dump the dogs**t boyfriend."
Someone else agreed: "Out. He’s got to go. He’s a sociopath."
A third wrote: "Either he did it on purpose and he’s a sociopath, or it was accidental and he’s such an absolute incompetent buffoon that marrying him is a liability.
"Either one should be grounds for dismissal."
