Couple called 'gross and embarrassing' for setting up GoFundMe to raise $10,000 for their wedding

People have slammed the couple online

One couple have been slammed as 'gross and embarrassing' for setting up a GoFundMe to raise $10,000 for their wedding.

Now, we all know that even the simplest of weddings can come attached with a pretty hefty price-tag but this couple have really sent the internet into a dizzy after attempting to fundraise a small fortune for their special day.

While most couples, unless loaded, chip into their savings or reach out to the bank of mum and dad for help - it seems one pair opted for a slightly alternative means of acquiring the big bucks.

One person came across the fundraiser and took to Reddit on the 'wedding shaming' thread to share their outrage.

They titled the rant: "Awful couple asking for 10k through GoFundMe."

"I know someone who's been with their partner for six months and they got engaged. That's not the problem though..." they began.

"The problem is they started a GoFundMe for 10k so they can have their 'dream wedding'."

The Reddit user went on: "I was in complete awe.

"Imagine being so entitled that you ask others to pay 10k for one day. I don't have anything else to add, I just needed to share because what the hell."

According to screenshots taken from the GoFundMe page, the bride and groom revealed they were asking for $10,000 (around £8,000) to cover the bill of their big day so that is properly 'reflects their personalities'.

Describing their vision, the couple wrote: "Imagine the radiant glow of the setting sun as we exchange vows under a beautiful, vine covered pergola.

"Picture the smiles, the tears of joy, and the collective embrace of our loved ones, celebrating our union. With your help, we can transform this vision into a reality that will echo through our lives for years to come."

People clearly couldn't wait to share their reactions to the request with one Reddit user writing: "Ugh. I always think that couples like this who are so focused on the perfect wedding day are going to end up divorced in a year. The wedding is just the beginning, not the finish line."

A second penned: "If you (or your parents) can't afford the wedding of your dreams, then perhaps you need to re-evaluate your dream wedding."

"They really laid it on thick didn't they? I'm embarrassed for them," a third chimed in.

A final Reddit user hit out: "Wow, they're gross."
