Study Reveals Women Are Most Attracted To Men With 'Dad Bods'

It turns out there's a pretty scientific reason behind it, too.

While popular culture might have led us to believe that women like their men with taut muscles and impressive abs, a new study claims us ladies are more attracted to men with a 'dad bod'.

It seems like the desire for muscular men has gone out of fashion, in favour of men who would rather enjoy a few beers while watching Netflix, according to the study by Planet Fitness.

Earlier this year, 2,000 people took part in an anonymous online study to find out what was considered the most attractive body type.

The results revealed seven out of 10 of the women were more attracted to men who were up to 20 pounds overweight.

Last year it was announced that the UK had officially been named the most overweight nation in Western Europe, with a whopping 36 per cent of Brits being over the recommended BMI for their height category - so there's bound to be plenty of men who can offer up their dad bods.

Planet Fitness' survey also discovered that 78 per cent of women believed bigger men were more confident in their own skin and that four out of five mums would be proud to be married to someone with a more 'fatherly figure.'

While it might sound vain to base attraction solely on looks, there could actually be a scientific reason as to why heterosexual women are more attracted to men who are carrying a little bit more weight.

According to an anthropology lecturer at Yale University, Richard Bribiescas, chubbier men could be healthier than their gym-going counterparts, because weight gain is caused by decreasing levels of testosterone. In turn, this leads to a stronger immune system which could mean chubbier men have longer life spans.

He explained: "This change in body composition not only causes men to shop for more comfortable trousers but also facilitates increased survivorship and, hypothetically, a hormonal milieu that would more effectively promote and support paternal investment."

So what he's pretty much saying is that chunkier men make better baby daddies, which in turn could make heterosexual women more drawn to them. Now it's all starting to make sense.
