A young woman was left in shock when she suddenly went in to labour just hours after doctors told her she wasn't pregnant.

Stacey, whose last name was not given, had no idea that her stomach pains meant she'd soon be giving birth to her baby girl.

The 25-year-old appeared on BBC One's Ambulance, which follows a shift with a North West Ambulance Service crew in Manchester.

Stacey was in her hotel room when she went to the toilet and felt an overwhelming urge to push, but no one was more surprised than her when she ended up giving birth to her first child, who fell into the toilet.

She had been visiting a Harry Potter convention during the day, but had also been to the doctors because she was suffering back pain.

What's most surprising is she had taken a pregnancy test just hours before, which came back negative.

The programme hears the 999 call made by Stacey's friend Rebecca, as she tells the operator: "My friend, she's not been well all day and then she's literally just had a baby. About two, three minutes ago."

When asked how many weeks pregnant she is, Rebecca says: "I don't know, because she actually didn't know she was pregnant.

Advanced paramedic Jon headed to the Britannia Hotel, where he found Stacey in a blood-covered hotel room bathroom, holding onto her newborn.

"I've had like really bad back pain, the next thing I know I'm pushing, and then I can feel like a head on me," Stacey told him.

"She was in the toilet and I had to pull her out."

Despite being several months pregnant, Stacey revealed she had been to the doctors that day because she had a bump, but she was told her test had come back negative, "so they were like, we'll test you to see if you've got a cyst or something," she added.

Rebecca then offers to call Stacey's boyfriend, Tom, who makes his way to Manchester from Leeds after being given the shock news.

The rest of the crew arrived and cut the umbilical cord, but they soon discover Stacey needs to go to hospital as she was having a post-partum bleed.

They rush her to St Mary's Hospital, where thankfully she makes a full recovery.

Stacey and Tom decided to call their baby girl Elizabeth Alice Rose.

Ambulance airs on BBC One at 9pm on Thursday.
