As a passenger, putting your feet on the dashboard as you're cruising in the car might seem one of the comfiest ways to travel.

But it's also one of the most dangerous - just ask Grainne Kealy, the woman who lost half of her forehead in a horror accident.

Grainne, from Laois, Ireland, was driving with her boyfriend when he skid on some black ice, causing their car to hit into a wall.

Resting her feet on the dashboard, Grainne's knees were immediately shot into her forehead at 120 miles per hour when the airbag inflated under her feet.

Grainne, who was 22 at the time of the crash, was rushed to hospital where she was told she had suffered multiple facial fractures and a cerebrospinal fluid leak from her brain.

"It was very noticeable when my hair was pulled back. I tried to keep it covered as much as possible," Grainne tells PRETTY 52.

"It affected me in a big way... I stopped going out to places unless I had to. I bought a lot of hats. I actually damaged muscles in my neck from holding my head down so people wouldn't look at my face.

"It still affects me, I don't like my face."

It happened in 2006... 16th of December 2006.Thirteen years on her from her traumatic injury, Grainne is warning people against the dangers of putting you feet on the dashboard.

"I had decided along the way that I would be more comfortable if my feet were on the dashboard," the 35-year-old told The Sun.

"It was something I rarely did and only did that morning as I had bought a new pair of Ugg boots and knew that I wouldn't dirty the dashboard.

"Silly when you think about it. By doing this my feet were placed directly on top of the airbag without realising.

"When the jeep collided with the wall the airbags inflated as they do but because my feet were on top of mine it actually pushed my feet, knees first into my face."

What followed was a complicated procedure, lasting nearly 10 and a half hours, in which surgeons had to rebuild Grainne's face.

"They told me that I had pushed in and up my face and they would have to basically pull it all out and put it back together," she recalled to the paper.

As a result of the the crash, Grainne suffered an acquired brain injury which has affected her memory and attention span.

"I constantly lose words while in the middle of a conversation. This can happen to me 20 times a day," she recalled.

"I get headaches when too many people are talking around and I sometimes find it difficult to stay focused."

Now, Grainne is warming people against putting their feet on the dashboard.

"Please don't risk it. It's just not worth it. Please learn from my mistake. I am still having surgeries nearly 14 years later. Please keep your feet on the floor!," Grainne urges.

Grainne also often shares images of high profile celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Selena Gomez who posted photos of themselves with their feet up, urging others not to copy.

We'll be keeping our feet firmly in the foot well from now on.
