There's no relationship quite like a dog and its owner, and that's exactly what six loyal pooches proved when they waited outside a hospital for a full day after their owner had a stroke.
The dogs chased the ambulance carrying their owner, a homeless man known only as Luiz, all the way to the hospital where they sat howling for hours on end while they waited to be reunited with their human.
It was last Wednesday when the loyal pets waited at the entrance of the Santa Casa Hospital in Cianorte, south Brazil, when Luiz was rushed to accident and emergency.
The touching moment was captured on film as the six dogs chased the ambulance for several miles as it carried the man, who'd lived on the streets for 20 years, after he suffered a stroke.
Simone Zilane, a volunteer at the animal welfare group, Amigos de Patas (Paws Friends) saw the pooches waiting for their beloved owner.
She told Brazilian media: "The dogs were desperate. They followed the ambulance, racing after it down the roads and arrived just as Luiz was being taken into the hospital.
"They went mad as they took him in and howled non-stop at the entrance. After a while they lay down on the ground and refused to leave."
Thankfully, Luiz recovered from his stroke and was discharged the following day, but the reunion between the owner and his dogs almost didn't happen.
Simone explained: "When we realised Luiz had been discharged and his pets were none the wiser, one of our volunteers went to fetch him from his brother's house and take him to where the dogs were still waiting for him."

It was only then that the dogs got up from their spot to go and greet their beloved human.
"He hadn't realised they were outside all this time, but he wasn't too surprised."
