A sweet lurcher named Sam has been branded Britain's loneliest dog after spending over two years in a shelter.
The eight-year-old pooch is the longest serving resident at the Destitute Animal Shelter in Bolton, Greater Manchester.
However, despite having been adopted three times, he is still waiting for his "forever home".

Sadly for Sam, the first three adoptions weren't to be.
He was taken into the shelter in February 2017 after his last own passed away siz months after adopting him.

Sam is the longest resident, currently living alongside 12 casts and 20 dogs in the shelter - who have recently teamed up with Bolton energy switching firm, Love Energy Savings.
Speaking about the poor pooch, shelter manager Karen Rickards said: "Sam has been so unlucky, and it's through no fault of his own.
"His last owner died in 2017 - which was his third brief attempt at being re-homed - he was there for six months and he's been here ever since."

Karen revealed that Sam was one of the most loved pups in the facility.
"It's never anything Sam's done, he's just constantly found himself in the wrong home at the wrong time.
"He's currently our longest-serving resident. And yet he's playful, gentle and absolutely loves people.
"We need to find someone who can take care of him. He deserves nothing less than an amazing home."

A post on the Destitute Animal Shelter's Facebook describes him as "loving," but "also quite lazy" - a pooch after our own hearts!
It also advises that anybody who wants to take Sam in will have to welcome him into a home with no other pets, as he likes to chase smaller creatures.
"He is obsessed with teddys and likes to rip them up to see what's inside. He is fine with children," the post adds.

It comes after a lurcher named Hector was previous dubbed the most lonely after spending 500 days at RSPCA's Little Valley Animal Shelter.
His story ended happily, though, as the news of his misfortune resulted in him finally finding a home.
