A young bride was able to tie the knot in front of her terminally ill grandad at the weekend, thanks to a generous woman who donated her dream venue for free after calling off her own wedding.

Halie Hipsher wed Matthew Jones in a last minute ceremony on Saturday, just a week after former bride-to-be Kolbie Sanders revealed she'd kindly donate her venue for free after cancelling her engagement.

While announcing her wedding would no longer be taking place, Kolbie put out a public call for engaged couples who would benefit from using her $3,500 venue in Tyler, Texas.

Halie and her partner Matthew were nominated by several different people, partially due to Halie's grandad, who has stage four pancreatic cancer, not having long left to live.

The 22-year-old was due to get married next year, but jumped at the chance to wed a year earlier, and have her grandad attend the ceremony.

"My grandfather is the person who glues our family together and words cannot express how happy I was that he got to see me get married," she said.

"Our wedding was a dream come true and I'm so thankful that Kolbie was there.

"She fit in so well with everyone. She became a part of our family that night."

Kolbie, who attended the wedding as 'guest of honour', said: "For so long, I had pictured myself in the white dress with my family gathered around me and it was strange to see Halie in my place.

"But I feel like I did the right thing and I am so happy that I got to witness their wedding in person.

"I know that I will have the chance to get married eventually at the right time and to the right person."

She added: "My favourite part of the wedding was probably seeing Halie with her pawpaw.

"If she hadn't won the wedding, she would have had to wait another year and the chances of Edwin being alive would be slim. I'm so grateful she won."
