Mum says teen daughter won't speak to her after cleaning bedroom without permission

Mum says teen daughter won't speak to her after cleaning bedroom without permission

The mum took to Reddit to vent her frustrations over the situation

A mum on the edge has revealed how her teenage daughter is refusing to speak to her after she 'deep cleaned' her bedroom without permission.

Ah, the joys of parenting teenagers!

As if the messy bedrooms aren't bad enough, the mood swings and bad attitudes are definitely enough to push any parent to breaking point.

And this one mum has taken to Reddit to vent her frustrations over her teenage daughter's ongoing silent treatment after she cleaned out her bedroom because, and I quote, 'her mum messed up her wardrobe'.

The mum, who has remained anonymous, explained how her daughter - aged between 13-19 - was away at camp so she decided to deep clean and declutter her bedroom.

"Most days she keep it okay (the room itself is really small, and she have a bunch of stuff, so it's easily gets messy) but the last month was hard on her (mental health issues)," the parent explained.

"So I checked it out, only threw out was actually trash, like candy wrapper etc. I bought new bed sheet in her favourite colors (neon pink and black) new boxes with weeks under her bed, washed everything (blankets, plushies, hidden maybe clean-maybe not clothes) folded everything, cleaned out the carpet."

Sounds like a pretty nice thing to do for a daughter, right?

Well, the daughter was not pleased in the slightest when she arrived back home.

"She nit picked what I did, accusing of throwing away her stuff (not true) I messed up her wardrobe (not true again, I put everything where she would put them," the mum explained.

"Now she's basically ignoring me all day, and sitting in her 'messed up' room."

People were quick to offer their advice and thoughts online, with one explaining how she used to be 'that teenager' and how 'violating' it would feel for their personal belongings to be touched without permission.

"I was the teenager in this situation about 15 years ago, and I still remember how violating it felt," they wrote.

"My mom meant well, but she rearranged all my stuff, put things away where they didn't belong, cleaned everything, and threw out anything she didn't immediately know the use for.

"In her mind, she was helping me. In my mind, it was a total desecration of the one private space I had in the house."

And another added: "The sacred rule of having a teenager is to never touch their room. You were coming from a good place, but at the end of the day, you invaded her space and rearranged without asking."

In an update, the mum explained how eventually her daughter spoke to her and it turned out 'her biggest problem was a misunderstanding', with the daughter thinking her mum had taken away her diary - which wasn't the case.

Communication is key - especially when children are becoming adults!
