Young Brits Aren't Having Much Sex And Netflix Is Probably To Blame

We've all heard of Netflix and Chill - you know, that euphemism for sex that's found its way into modern dating lexicon?

Well, it turns out this millennial phrase is kind of misleading as it's been found young people are actually having LESS sex because of their habit of bingeing on the streaming site.

A new study has found that young Britons are 'doing it' less than they were a decade ago and our digital lives - that's spending time on the likes of Netflix and Instagram - could be partly to blame.

The findings published in The British Medical Journal found that only 41 per cent of Brits have sex at least once a week and that only 29 per cent have had sex in the last month. In the study, more than 34,000 of Brits ages 16-44 were asked questions about their sex lives.

Those who are having less sex now include people over the age of 25, and those who are married or living with their partner.

Our lack of sex is quite worrying considering the NHS suggest getting intimate at least once a week is good for our immune systems and general health.

Lead researcher Kaye Wellings, Professor of Sexual and Reproductive Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, said: "There is a great deal of competition that a sexual relationship has to face.

"In the digital age, there are more diversionary stimuli that can take up your spare time... smartphones, Netflix and social media are all likely distractions that may prevent intimacy."

Makes sense seeing as our parents didn't have mobile phones when they were our age and social media was still just a passing thought in Mark Zuckerberg's mother and father's head.

It's also been found that Brits are drinking far less these days (alcohol consumption in the UK fell by seven per cent between 2010 and 2017) which begs the question: WTF are we doing with our time?

But Netflix isn't about to go and take the blame.

Speaking to The Sun, a company spokesperson said: "We take pride in being part of the cultural zeitgeist, but getting credit for a decadeslong decline in sex is beyond even our programming abilities".

Well, that's fair enough.
