Naming your pet has to be on of the most difficult things to do (unless they are extremely fluffy and you go for the obvious).

Pets At Home has released a list of the most popular pet names in the UK and there are a few surprising entries. As part of its annual survey, the pet shop has been asking owners to share their four-legged friends' names.

And if you have a dog called Bella, Poppy, Lola or Alfie then the name might not be as unique as you first thought, as these monikers have been named to top four for beloved pooches.

Last year's most popular name - Charlie - has dropped to fifth place this year.

If you are a cat lover, you are more likely to have called your pet Luna, Bella or Milo.

Loki and Gizmo are also popular names for felines.

The strangest finding from the survey was that parrots are the pet most likely to be given a human name.

Charlie, Kirsty, Ollie, Bernard and Basil have topped the list of names for pet birds.

And the winner of 'most predictable names' has to go to the small animal category, which includes guinea pigs, rabbits and hamsters. Flopsy, Thumper, Luna, Cookie and Rosie have all topped the list here.

For reptiles, the most popular names are also Spike, Luna, Echo, Athena and Sam.

There are a lot of different things that can change the popularity of names, and Pets At Home points out that popular culture plays a big part.

Musician John Legend and Chrissy Teigen named their daughter Luna, which may have contributed to the name's increased popularity across all species.

Children are also given the responsibility of naming their new pet which also explains why there are so many film and TV references in the lists.

And the popularity of Disney is still not dying down.

Pets At Home has also launched a tool for you to see how popular your pet's name is.
