A California teen jumped to all the wrong conclusions when his ill girlfriend texted him a picture of a high-thermometer reading last week and he mistook it for a pregnancy test.

His girlfriend shared the funny anecdote via screenshots on her Twitter account (@VNSAMRE). With the caption: "I had a fever last night and my boyfriend thought the thermometer was a pregnancy test."

The initial text she sent him was of a digital thermometer reading 100°F (around 38°C) and the message "Holy f*ck".

She received a response instantly with his protests that she couldn't be pregnant:

"How"

"Wtf"

'Your [sic] on birth control"

"Baby"

Presumably, VNSAMRE quickly put him out of his misery and reassured him that she had a fever, not a foetus, to contend with.

Since the exchange was posted last Tuesday her tweet has been liked over 175k times, retweeted over 31k times and had over 1.1k reactions.

"He saw it as you're 100% pregnant and lmao I'm dead," wrote one.

Another said: "Comes down to... he's not ready for a child babygirl," to which VNSAMRE replied: "I'm not either so it's ok."

"If I was with a dude that couldn't tell the difference between a thermometer and a pregnancy test...I'd be eating birth control like M&Ms," tweeted another woman.

Other Twitter users shared similar experiences:

When some Twitter users pointed out that VNSAMRE's boyfriend used 'your' when he should have written 'you're,' one Twitter user said: "The dude thought a thermometer was a pregnancy test, the last thing I would expect from him is the proper use of that word."

But VNSAMRE leapt to his defence: "It's honestly so sad how many of y'all can't chill out and just laugh at the fuckin tweet. y'all act like you were made to perfection, haaa."
