We all know the frustration of arriving at the supermarket for your big shop only to realise you don't have a £1 pound coin to get out a trolley.

Valuable minutes spent queuing for change is just not what you need ahead of the chore - which is why we're totally trying this hack.

Posting on the Latest Deals, Extreme Couponing & Bargains Group Facebook group, one shopper shared their trick for unlocking a shopping trolley if you don't have a pound coin - and the good news is, all you need is two 20ps.

Simply pop the two coins one on top of the other and you'll trick the mechanism into thinking it's a weighty £1 coin.

Shopper Rodney Cooper explained: "If you don't have a pound coin or a trolley coin put two 20s together & boom it will work." Alongside the post, her posted a photo showing the hack in action.

Some shoppers vowed to try the trick next time they found themselves short of the right change at the trolley rank, but others complained jamming unsuitable coins in the slots could risk leaving the trollies stuck.

"NO DONT!!! THEY get jammed in there and even trying to pull them out with pliers doesn't get them out. Stupid idiots using those blue tesco tokens too," one wrote.

"I was embarrassed in Aldi as I did this they got stuck and jammed and a manager had to come out to fix it, very very embarrassing," another wrote.

"Tried this and it works but I couldn't get my 20ps back [it] jammed the trolley," another said.

Another made the point: "Don't know why people are trying to swerve paying (loaning) a quid in a trolley? More likely to have a quid then 2 twenties surely."

Sounds like it might be easier to just buy yourself a reusable token or come out with the right change next time...
