Woman Divides Internet With Text From Delivery Man Reassuring Her Kebabs Weren't 'Making Her Fat'

One woman was left flattered when she received a text from a delivery driver reassuring her about her figure - but not everyone believed his intentions were so kind.

Shannon Passingham, 22, ordered herself a kebab one Saturday evening after a long day working in an ambulance.

When collecting the greasy treat from her delivery driver, she made an off-handed comment about piling on the pounds should she keep ordering takeaways.

However, the delivery driver decided to send a text to Shannon later to tell her he was "worried" about her feeling fat.

Texting the Chichester native at just gone midnight, the mystery man wrote: "Hi, you got me worried [about] what you said about getting fat. Don't worry you're not fat. I hope you're okay."

Left complimented by the message, Shannon posted a screenshot of the text to her Twitter page, writing: "Ordered food from the kebab (again) and when the delivery man come to my door I said omg I'm going to get so fat and then he text me this."

While the post quickly went viral, amassing over 435,000 likes, Twitter was divided over the delivery man's intentions.

Some believed that his message to Shannon was endearing, with one woman writing: "THAT IS SO SWEET. He has probably struggled with or knows someone who has struggled with an eating disorder, so he's probably hyper-aware of that kind of stuff so he wanted to reassure you."

Another said: "This is a very sweet thing for him to say. A lot of people struggle with body issues and eating disorders and it sounds like he just genuinely cares if you're okay. It's good to help others."

A third added: "The fact he checked on you and your mental health is so kind. The world needs more people like him."

However, others believed the delivery driver may have had less noble intentions.

One Twitter user believed that the driver "wanted to get in [Shannon's] pants", while a second said: "Be careful with that, I once had a delivery bloke hounding me via text."

Another chipped in: "He liked the look of her and thought it was a good excuse to messenger her."

While it is not known whether she replied, Shannon, who has a boyfriend, was taken aback by the response her original tweet received.

Believing the man in question was only being kind, she said: "F**k me, I only wanted to share that my delivery driver was nice."
