Dr Alex George has revealed the tragic news that his younger brother has died.

Taking to Instagram on Friday, the Love Island star paid tribute to his "beautiful little brother" Llŷr, revealing his family had "lost him to mental health".

Alex, 30, wrote: "I can't believe I am actually writing this post. I have lost my beautiful little brother to mental health.

"I love you so much Llŷr. The kindest and most caring soul. I was so proud of you starting medical school next month, you would have been the most incredible doctor.

"We are hurting so bad. No words can explain. As a family we are devastated. We love you and miss you so much. Please rest in peace x Our boy."

Llŷr, who was training to become a doctor, is believed to have been 19 at the time of his death.

Support from fans and Dr Alex's fellow Love Island contestants quickly flooded in, with show star Rosie Williams writing: "Oh no Alex! This is so awful.

"I'm so so sorry from the bottom of my heart. Sending you all the love in the world. Thinking of you and your family through this terrible time."

Samira Mighty wrote: "Stay strong" while Josh Denzel commented: "Brooo here if you need me."

Wes Nelson added: "So sorry to hear this Alex! Stay strong I love you mate!"

Alex later took to his Instagram Stories, writing: "Thank you for all the messages of kindness here and to my phone. I am incredibly grateful of the support and it means so much."

Dr Alex has been working on the front line during the coronavirus pandemic.

He recently revealed he had split from girlfriend Amelia Bath, who he had been dating since December 2018.

"Guys just want to let you know, Amelia and I have decided to go our separate ways," he said in a statement.

"As you know, we've been apart for most of lockdown which has been hard on us both and we both agree this is for the best.

"We will remain good friends and I have nothing but respect for Amelia. Thank you for the love and support always."

We're thinking of Dr Alex at this difficult time.
