It's General Election Day, which means one thing (you know, apart from the fact the future of our country is literally in the balance). DOGS AT POLLING STATIONS.
It's one of the best British traditions out there. Now, it almost goes without saying that once you've ticked that all important box on your ballot paper, you sit your dog in front of the polling station and have a little photoshoot.

And if you don't have a dog? Just spend hours scrolling through pictures of other people's adorable pups instead.
Already, the #DogsAtPollingStations hashtag is filling up with snaps of people's furry friends accompanying them as they exercise their rights.
Labour Mayor of London Sadiq Khan took his canine companion along with him to vote, while our current Prime Minister Boris Johnson was also accompanied by his dog Dilyn.

Polling opened at 7am today, and runs until 10pm tonight. This means you still have plenty of time to get down there and make your voice heard while simultaneously getting that all important doggo snap for the 'gram. Win, win.

But it doesn't stop at dogs either, as some people without canine friends clearly felt left out, and opted to bring other animals along instead.
This morning, Wiltshire council tweeted a picture of a horse outside its polling booth.
"Well, we've seen many but a #horsewithacause is a new one on us!," they wrote. "He was a bit lairy when he arrived and was jockeying for position, so we had to rein him in. However, we're delighted he showed up for the mane event (...i'll get my coat) #GE2019".

Meanwhile, others tried to get their feline friends involved too, using the hashtag #CatsAtPollingStations.

At this point, we should probably remind you that animals can't actually vote, guys. Although we're sure they enjoy being included nonetheless.
But you can and should make your voice heard. Here's why it's so important.
