We don't blame you if you've given up all hopes of a glimmer of a summer with the washout August we've been experiencing - but don't batten down the hatches for autumn just yet, as things are looking to hot up for the bank hols.

Yes, according to the Met Office, temperatures could reach up to 29C for the long bank holiday weekend. Hooray!

Forecaster Nichola Maxey told PRETTY 52 that while there is still a lot of uncertainty over the weekend, there is an "indication we might see a high pressure build," which would bring "settled, dry conditions."

She added: "Temperatures could reach the mid-20s in parts of the country. On Saturday we could see the south-east reach 25C."

"On Sunday and Monday, we might see some parts in the south reach between 27C and 29C."

This is good news for those heading to the capital for the annual Notting Hill Carnival, but unfortunately things are set to be cooler and wetter in the north.

The good weather is going to come after weeks of rain, putting us on track to have the wettest August on record. Scattered showers, winds and even thundery spells are set to hit the UK this week before the weather picks up on Saturday.

At the end of July, Britain braced itself for the hottest day on record as the Met Office predicted there was a 60 per cent chance we could reach 39C in some part of the southeast on Thursday 25th, half a degree more than the hottest temperature ever recorded in the UK.

The weather body announced it recorded a figure of 38.7C from Cambridge Botanic Garden, which was later validated, making it the hottest temperature recorded in the country.

So there you have it, while the bank holiday isn't due to be record-breaking, it will be HOT, so this is your cue to line-up some major outdoor activities for Saturday through to Monday.

Enjoy!
