People discover secret switch on doors to make them less draughty

How did we not know this earlier?

A TikToker has shown people how they can use a 'secret switch' on their doors to help keep the cold out as temperatures drop.

There's no denying it: winter is here.

In fact, it feels like it barely ever went away, but with the nights now closing in and the weather only getting more miserable, it's time to start thinking about ways to stay warm inside.

Though heating might be the obvious answer, it's also the expensive one. Luckily, one TikToker has revealed a completely free way to help keep out the cold for those who have UPVC doors.

In a post on the platform, TikToker Alijacy shared a step-by-step guide showing how to alter UPVC doors so they pull in the seal tighter and fit more snugly in the frame - meaning there’s less chance of a draught getting in. Clever, eh?

He explained: “Just a little tip if you have UPVC doors and there a bit draughty, they have a summer and a winter setting.”

The TikToker then opened his door to reveal the small metal sliders, on which you’re able to twist them and make the seals tighter.

He went on: “So on the sliders they have a little mark, you twist it out and then it will pull your seals tighter.”

The tighter seals mean warm air won't get out and cold air won’t get in.

Many TikTok users were completely unaware of the simple trick with one person writing: “Why don't they tell you this when they fit the door?”

Another wrote: “Wow, I never even realised.”

TikTokers have been blown away by the hack.

And a third said: “Wait… 43 YEARS and now you’re telling me this information?”

While someone else confirmed: “It actually does work, just done mine and I had a gap in top of door and now I don’t. Thank you.”

Another person suggested that you may need an allen key to do the job properly, posting: “Not quite, most doors it would be an allen key adjustment for compression, if it’s that loose it’ll roll back the first time it engages on the keep.”

Alijacy isn't the only one sharing tips on how to keep your house warm this winter, with another TikToker showing off how she put a curtain across her front door to 'prevent as much heat loss as possible'.

With just an extendable shower curtain rail that was purchased for around £15 from Amazon, and the curtain which was purchased for £30, the TikToker said the curtain had 'the biggest impact on the temperature in our flat'.
