People left divided after woman reveals she washes her Christmas tree

It's caused quite the stir online

Now, we all have our own little rituals and ceremonies we do each year as we count down the days until Christmas.

Whether it's whacking on your ugliest festive jumper, religiously keeping up with your advent calendar, raiding the Christmas markets or going all-out decorating the house - it's fair to say we're all very stoked for the big day.

However, it seems some traditions are less common than others after one woman divided the internet after revealing she washes her Christmas tree. Have a look:

The short clip has since gone viral after clocking up a staggering 6.9 million views on the app.

It starts with the woman filling up her bath with soapy water then soaking the branches of the artificial tree in it, leaving behind a pretty grotty tub filled with murky water.

She captioned the TikTok: "Cleaned the fake Christmas tree before putting it up."

While the TikToker has since turned the comments off on the video - it hasn't stopped people from sharing their opinions across the social media platform.

Another woman took to the app to share her 'unpopular opinion' that 'you need to clean your Christmas tree'.

She seemed to follow a similar routine, first spraying the branches with what appears to be some sort of disinfectant before filling the tub up with water and some squirts of washing up liquid.

The tub was then drained, with far clearer water than the first woman's, and she ended the video assembling the tree.

"Clean my Christmas tree with me," she captioned the clip.

Yikes.

The video, uploaded just two days ago, has also gone viral racking up an impressive 686.9k views with hundreds upon hundreds of comments from people eager to react to it.

One TikTok user claimed: "Cleantok is getting outta hand."

A second declared: "The water being clear told me I don’t need to do this."

"Is this before or after you power wash the tinsel?" joked a third, while a fourth hit out: "I need to WHAT? Every day I get on this app and it’s something more I gotta do..."

A fourth chimed in: "Seems like this may lead to mildew/mould depending on the type of tree."

Others, however, were far more supportive of the woman's cleaning routine.

"You know what… it’s your tree. Live your best life," offered one TikTok user.

Another praised: "I'm the one person who needed this! Always have an allergic reaction when I decorate plastic trees lol."

A third echoed: "You know? Do whatever your little heart desires, friend."

Where do you stand on the whole cleaning Christmas tree debate?
