Sometimes the world can seem a bleak place, especially first thing on a Monday.

But today's hero of the hour is here to remind us all that there is plenty of good in the world if you look hard enough.

An American woman has posted a truly heartwarming story over on Reddit, describing the sweet and selfless act of her boyfriend to reassure and comfort her little girl.

The woman posted a photo of her daughter sitting on a hospital bed while the woman's boyfriend holds her hands alongside a caption that reads: "my daughter was nervous about having an IV put in.

My new boyfriend (army medic) sat and showed her exactly how it would work and said he'd have one put in too".

The original poster didn't specify what her daughter was suffering with, but it's clear from the photo that she shares a powerful bond with her mum's partner.

Explaining why the man, who is an army medic, was perfectly suited to help out in this way, one user confirmed that army medics "have to learn how to give themselves IVs".

While another added, "I'll confirm this as a former medic. I also had to learn to do one on myself while using night vision goggles. The challenge increases without proper depth perception."

Luckily, the little girl is feeling better, and is now out of hospital and back home in the arms of her loving family.
