At the start of the new year, we're all filled with promise about how we're going to become our best, most beautiful selves.

But how do you actually become more productive and achieve your 2019 goals? One simple and effective solution? The Pomodoro Technique.

The super effective concentration hack, raved about on Twitter, "teaches you to work with time, instead of struggling against it," according to Francesco Cirillo who dreamt up the handy time management method in the 1980s.

Named after the pomodoro tomato-shaped kitchen timer that Cirillo used as a uni student, the hack works by breaking your time up into manageable 25-minute segments so that it becomes easier to face - and complete - any task.

"Over 2 million people have already used the Pomodoro Technique to transform their lives, making them more productive, more focused and even smarter," boasts Cirillo's useful website.

Here's how you can use the trick to become more productive...

Step 1: Select a task that you'd like to get done; writing and editing a new CV and cover letter, for example.

Step 2: Set your timer to 25 minutes. If you don't have an old-school timer, there are some apps available for your Android or iPhone that'll also do the job.

Step 3: Work on your task for the next 25 minutes until the timer goes off.

Step 4: When the timer rings, draw a tick on a piece of paper and take a short break. Maybe breathe or meditate for a couple of minutes - or grab yourself a cup of coffee.

Step 5: Repeat this process until you've got four ticks on your piece of paper and then take a longer break, for around 20 minutes. Your brain will use this time to assimilate new information and to rest before you begin the next round of work.

Step 6: Keep going until your task is complete.

The seven-step technique will help manage your time efficiently.

As well as helping you to manage your time even more efficiently, this technique also has the benefit of helping you to cut down on distractions, like wasted time scrolling on social media.

Good luck and here's hoping the Pomodoro Technique is the secret trick that'll help you unlock even more of your potential this year!
