We'll never understand why people cruelly abandon pets, leaving them to fend for themselves without a second thought. This adorable pup, Trooper, was abandoned and eventually sustained serious injuries - but thankfully, the dog has now found his forever home.
After Trooper was abandoned at a park in Ohio, he accidentally wandered over some train tracks, and when a train came along, he lost his tail and hind legs, and his eye was badly ruptured and was eventually surgically removed.
Luckily, the adorable pup was found by Ohio's Animal Friends Humane Society, who rushed him to an emergency vet clinic to help Trooper with his injuries, amputate his back legs and tail and remove his eye.

Thanks to the hard work of the team, Trooper was fitted with a canine wheelchair and after the pup's progress was shared on social media, he finally found a forever home with a family experienced in taking care of disabled animals.
The team also tracked down Trooper's former owner, a 17-year-old who admitted dumping Trooper and one of his siblings at a local park. The owner is being charged with cruelty and abandoning animals.
Regular updates on Trooper on the charity's Facebook page helped concerned well-wishers stay up to date with the pup's progress. The most recent update says: "And the biggest and most exciting news is TROOPER IS GETTING ADOPTED!

"We have chosen what we feel is the best family for Trooper. They have much experience with disabled animals and someone will be home with him at all times to give him the care he needs.
"He will be leaving his foster family and moving in with his new, forever family in the coming days.
"We want to thank all of our supporters for making this possible for Trooper. We had a lot of naysayers in the beginning telling us to euthanize him, so we hope that sharing Trooper's story has changed the opinions of some. We love our local celebrity!"
The charity's executive director also called on people to be more responsible when it comes to looking after animals.

"Please be more responsible with pets. If you don't have the means to properly care for an animal, then don't get one.
"If you have an animal and can no longer care for it, do the responsible thing and find it another home or surrender it to a shelter that will take care of it," Tara Bowser, the executive director of Animal Friends Humane Society, told People. "Turning an animal loose to fend for itself is never the answer."
