Chester Zoo's Elephants Are Having A Pool Party Today And You're Invited

Getting a little bored of your Friday Zoom drinks sesh?

Well, why not join Chester Zoo's elephant pool party instead?

That's right, Chester Zoo's family of adorable elephants will be splashing around at their very own 'herd pool party' today at 2pm - and you're invited.

This is what technology is made for, people.

The events take place every Friday as part of a virtual tour of the well-known attraction, and have been a hit with families looking to entertain little ones during lockdown.

Children and adults alike can join the tour through the zoo's official Facebook and YouTube channels to explore the zoo virtually, and see what their favourite animals are up to that day.

Footage of the zoo's incredible animal inhabitants is shared at set times of the day.

In moments, viewers can be chilling out with aardvarks, listening to tropical bird song or cosying up (at a distance) with baby otters.

• 10am - Asian short-clawed otters
• 11am - Fantastic fossa - Madagascar's super predator
• 12pm - Songbirds from South East Asia
• 1pm - Really cool reptiles
• 2pm - Elephant herd pool party
• 3.30pm - Amazing aardvarks

The fun doesn't end there. Chester Zoo offer a whole range of activities to accompany its virtual zoo days, which can be accessed online.

There are over 50 to choose from, ranging from educational activities to animal games and fun fact file sheets about fascinating species.

Talking about the popular online tours, a spokesperson for the zoo said: "Join us live on Facebook and YouTube from 10am for a whole day of amazing animal antics, it's the perfect way to learn, all from the comfort of your own home."

In these challenging times, attractions like Chester Zoo need the public's support more than ever.

With 35,000 animals to take care of, the attraction's keepers and conservationists are still hard at work every day, despite the site being closed to visitors.

It's vital that the attraction has the resources it needs to look after its species and staff.

This week the attraction created a JustGiving page to help raise funds towards the £465k a month it needs to look after its animals.
