Woman Reveals How She Cleared Up Her Chronic Eczema After 22 Years With £18 Product

"It's the only thing that works."

A woman has revealed how she cleared up her chronic eczema with an £18 moisturiser.

Lowri Hawkins, a photography postgraduate from Shropshire, has suffered from atopic eczema for 22 years.

Like many who have the medical skin condition, Lowri has found that her eczema - which causes her skin to become dry, cracked and itchy - has waxed and waned over time.

But after using Balmonds Skin Salvation, an intensive moisturiser made from all natural ingredients, she claims her skin is the calmest it's ever been.

"I have memories of having whole body rashes as a child," she tells Tyla. "Over time, it's affected localised areas like the creases of my elbows, the backs of my knees, ankles, and the tops of my feet."

These itchy patches can last for days or weeks at a time and are triggered by "anything from dust to pollen and dogs".

For years, Lowri struggled to find an effective treatment for her sore and flaky skin.

She visited multiple dermatologists, tried various prescription emollients, and was even admitted to hospital.

"When it was bad, I would shut myself away," said the photography enthusiast. "I didn't want to be seen. On the whole I try to have a positive outlook, but in October my face was cracked and oozing, and I missed a month of uni. Luckily my tutors were really supportive."

The double base emollient Lowri was using had a "thick, gel-like texture". While it had some positive effects on her skin, it also "made it very greasy" and would sting during her flare-ups.

Since discovering Balmonds, Lowri says her face has "never been so smooth" (

In January 2020, Lowri was scrolling through Instagram and came across Balmonds skincare brand.

She ordered herself a pot of their Skin Salvation, a blend of nutritious hemp seed, safflower and olive oil, made with beeswax.

"At the time my face was out of control and I wanted to try something that was a more natural alternative," said Lowri.

The photography student "instantly fell in love" with the product.

"It's long-lasting and gives such good overnight hydration," she explained.

"I don't wake up flaky anymore - and my skin isn't left feeling greasy either."

Skin Salvation is an unscented ointment specially formulated to nourish and hydrate dry and itchy skin.

The ultra gentle formula, made with natural ingredients to reduce skin irritations, makes it suitable for people who are prone to eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis or other dry skin conditions.

Today the award-winning natural moisturiser is a staple of Lowri's daily skincare routine and she says her face has "never been so smooth".

"It's the only thing I put on my face, my go-to," she said. "I choose it above anything else - and while it's not the cheapest product, for me it's worth the price."

The student has stopped using topical steroids, saying she "no longer needs them".

"I don't think about my eczema anymore," said Lowri.

"It's reassuring, having that peace of mind, when you know a product will work."

Balmonds Skin Salvation comes in 3 sizes. 30ml, £7.99. 60ml, £12.99, 120ml, £18.99.
