Heartbreaking confession Si King makes as first Hairy Bikers episode is aired following Dave Myers' death

The BBC star died last week following his cancer diagnosis

Last week, Hairy Bikers fans were dealt the heartbreaking news that much-loved television chef Dave Myers had sadly died of cancer, aged just 66.

The announcement was made on social media by his on-screen 'other-half' Si King on 29 February, with heartbreaking tributes having since continued flooding in.

"Hi everyone, I’m afraid I bear some sad news," cooking connoisseur Si wrote on Instagram. "Most of you will know Dave has been fighting cancer for the past couple of years.

"Last night, on 28th February 2024, with Lili, Dave’s wife, his family, close friend David and myself by his side, he passed away peacefully at home. All who knew Dave are devastated at his passing.

"His beloved wife brought him such happiness as did her children, Iza and Sergiu who Dave loved like his own. Personally, I am not sure I can put into words on how I feel at the moment.

"My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can’t follow. I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime. I wish you god’s speed brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world."

He continued: "See you on the other side. Love ya. I know Dave and his family would want me to thank all of you who sent messages of support in recent times. It meant the world to him, his family and all The Hairy Bikers team.

Si King shared the news of his co-star's tragic passing.

"I am sending you all much love and gratitude for those simple acts of kindness, generosity and spirit. We are eternally grateful for them.

"May I ask you all for one further kindness and allow Lili, his wife, his family, close friends and I some time and some peace to process our huge loss. I am sure I will see you all soon. Love Si x."

The BBC quickly confirmed followed Dave's passing that the pre-recorded episode of Hairy Bikers - set to air tonight (5 March) - will go ahead as planned in honour of the television favourite.

The much-loved food-based documentary series sees the legendary twosome trek up and down the country, tasting the various cuisines of different counties before whipping up the same natural, low-waste meals.

On the show, however, tonight's viewers will see Dave admitting he needs to take a break due to the arduous nature of his cancer treatment.

Si will then be seen going on to make a heartbreaking confession about his hesitance to continue on the episode without his long-time best pal.

"With Dave’s treatment ongoing, he needed to take a break today, so he was a big miss, and I didn’t like riding on my own particularly, but I’m gonna take him some produce back and he can have a nibble," he tells viewers.

"It's odd without him."
