Michael Fassbender is back and his new project has already caused a lot of excitement online.
The 12 Years a Slave actor, 46, has been absent from the big screen for four years, with his most recent film credit being Magneto in 2019’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
But that is all about to change very, very soon as he is starring as the titular Killer in David Fincher’s new movie, The Killer.

Not many details about the psychological thriller have been revealed as of yet, so all we know is that it’s based on a French graphic novel series of the same name. The Netflix official synopsis for the film teases: “After a fateful near miss, an assassin battles his employers, and himself, on an international manhunt he insists isn't personal.”
Following the release of the trailer today (29 August), it quickly racked up 1.1M viewers on X and thousands of replies.
A lot of the responses are celebrating Fassbender and the film, which does look like a wild adventure.
“OK so beyond the fact that this is the hardest trailer we've received in a very long time, I love that Michael Fassbender's character is obsessed with Hats and Disguises,” one fan gushed.
“My King has returned,” another X user posted.

“Good Lord this looks amazing!!!” someone else wrote, adding: “We have missed you so much, Michael.”
A fourth commenter replied: “What a delicious teaser trailer. Fassbender and Fincher, with a [Trent] Reznor and [Atticus] Ross score? I'm so in!”
While another emotional fan confessed: “There are genuine tears running down my face we're so f***ing back on levels never before seen.”
And someone else wrote: "Man, the tone, rhythm, music and palette of this trailer seems like the spiritual successor to the art-trash-noir of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO and I could not be more excited. every frame is perfect."

So where has Mr. Fassbender been? Well, the Jane Eyre star has always had a passion for racing and grew up a huge fan of Formula 1. After finishing 15th while racing in the Ferrari Challenge’s Coppa Shell class on the Mugello Circuit in 2017, he went on to race his first full Ferrari Challenge season in 2018.
The following year, he took part in the Porsche Racing Experience, which laid the groundwork for him to take part in a 24-hour race at Le Mans in 2022.
Although he has no plans to become a professional racer, he wants to realise his full potential.

With that said, The Killer is the first of three film projects Fassbender has on the horizon, including Taika Waititi’s sports drama Next Goal Wins and the martial arts comedy Kung Fury 2.
The Killer will have its world premiere at the 80th Venice International Film Festival on 3 September, 2023. It will have a limited theatrical release on 27 October, 2023 before streaming on Netflix on 10 November, 2023.
