Netflix's Baby Reindeer fans urged to watch 'powerful' BBC drama also inspired by true story

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past week or so, you'll know all about the latest thriller series to hit Netflix, Baby Reindeer.

The seven-part show - which is currently in the top spot on the streaming platform - is based on the true story of comedian Richard Gadd, who found himself in a terrifying situation when he was relentlessly harassed by a stalker.

Since then, viewers of Baby Reindeer have urged fellow fanatics to watch a 'powerful' BBC drama also inspired by a true story.

The critically-acclaimed show went on to receive a whole bunch of accolades including nine nominations at the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards.

It also won two awards including Outstanding Writing.

And that series is none other than the 2020 drama-comedy created by and starring Michaela Coel - I May Destroy You.

The plot of the 12-part BBC programme follows Arabella (Coel) a young woman, who struggles to remember the events that took place during her night out with friends.

However, she soon realises that she was drugged and taken advantage of.

Fans couldn't help but draw parallels to the two shows with many rushing to social media to share their findings.

One X user began: "Baby Reindeer has something about it that reminds me of I May Destroy You."

"If you enjoyed Baby Reindeer, I encourage you to watch I May Destroy You on BBC iPlayer, Michaela Coel deserves everything," praised a second.

A third chimed in: "Don’t let the buzz fool you into treating Baby Reindeer lightly. It’s a brutal and incredibly honest story about abuse (in the vain of I May Destroy You) and Richard Gadd should be commended for that."

"The closest thing to Baby Reindeer is I May Destroy You — two powerful, beautiful, transformative works of art that capture trauma, grief, abuse and every shade of joy, heartbreak, anger, love, shame and catharsis that exist within each," added a fourth.

A fifth wrote: "Baby Reindeer was a lot, like I’ve haven’t watched a show like this since I May Destroy You. It was so honest and raw. I hope that guy has love and peace now."

"Baby Reindeer is up there with I May Destroy You as some of the best TV I’ve ever seen," gushed a sixth. "Completing unsettling, terrifyingly honest, so bloody well written. My only advice is to watch with someone as it is a lot to absorb."

Another admitted: "I stayed up last night binge watching Baby Reindeer on Netflix.

"It’s definitely up there with I May Destroy You for me in terms of being one of the few pieces of media I’ve seen that accurately depicts how incredibly messy being a victim/survivor is."
