Netflix viewers already can’t wait for dark documentary on TikTok dance group trapped in ‘disguised cult’

Netflix viewers already can’t wait for dark documentary on TikTok dance group trapped in ‘disguised cult’

The upcoming Netflix documentary already has viewers excited

An upcoming Netflix documentary is set to focus on dancers are who said to be trapped in a cult.

A trailer for the doc dropped on X and has got everybody talking.

It revolves around 7M Films, which claims to be a management company for dancers, actors and models.

However, the organisation's darker side has been getting increasing attention in recent years.

Founded by Robert Shinn in 2021, the company would approach social media influencers. Included in this cohort were the Wilking sisters.

While Miranda Wilking decided to work with 7M, Melanie Wilking noticed some red flags that steered her away.

One was that Shinn is the leader of Los Angeles' Shekinah Church. Or at least, he purports to be, as the church has no physical or social media presence.

Melanie and her parents went viral in 2022 when they suggested 7M was a cult, claiming that Miranda was being manipulated.

The new doc - called Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult - tells the story of the dancers who became involved in 7M Films.

Director Derek Doneen told Netflix: "I think audiences will be surprised by how easily regular people can get sucked into cult-like groups and how devastating the impact can be on families, friends, and communities.

"I’m in awe of the families who let us in as they worked tirelessly to rescue their loved ones."

While executive producer Jessica Acevedo added: "This series is about exposing the wrongdoers and setting the story straight.

"All with the hope of helping those still under the control of the church."

The church, founded in 1994, has been hit with several accusations over the years.

In 2009, a former member, Lydia Chung, sued Shinn, claiming he had 'isolated her from her family, brainwashed her and defrauded her out of $4 million'.

The judge ultimately ruled in Shinn's favour.

There seems to be a lot to cover with this upcoming documentary - and Netflix subscribers are more than ready to start binge watching.

One commented: "Oh, I'm seated!"

While another added: "This is wild!"

And a third commented: "Yikes! That sounds like a wild plot twist for a reality show. Can't wait to see how it all unfolds!"

Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult will be available to stream on Netflix on May 29.
