Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour could be the highest grossing tour of all time

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour could be the highest grossing tour of all time

The singer could beat Elton John's record

I think there is one thing that is certain in life... you should never underestimate the power of the Swifties.

Taylor Swift is currently embarking on her Eras Tour performing her hit tracks to sold-out stadiums across the US since March.

In June, the the multi-award winning singer surprised UK fans with international dates for her popular tour, which included shows in Edinburgh, Liverpool, Cardiff and London.

The 33-year-old has also announced further dates in South America, Asia, Australia, and Europe.

Fans of the pop star will be well aware about the mad rush that has come with obtaining tickets, with some previously claiming to have purchased gig tickers using an unknown system.

And the popularity of The Eras Tour is perhaps evident through the money being made as a result of it.

As reported by CNN, The Eras Tour could well become the highest grossing tour of all time.

The North American leg of the tour could gross a whopping $2.2 billion (£1.7bn) alone, as per data from QuestionPro.

That figure includes the round of shows the 'Anti-Hero' hit-maker just concluded, as well as the second leg of her North American tour coming next year, which makes a total of 68 shows.

The data also found that the average attendance per Swift show so far was 72,459 and the average price of pre-sale and first sale tickets was $455.78 (£358.62).

Larry Miller, director of the music business program at New York University Steinhardt, told CNN: "We’re talking about a global pop artist who faces virtually infinite demand for those tickets."

Using a calculator of course, that brings the grand total of The Eras Tour to $2.2 billion, which blows the current tour record out of the park.

That belongs to Elton John and his much-loved Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, which reportedly grossed over $887 million (£698m) between 2018 and 2023.

While the ticket sales are raising huge amounts of cash, Swift's tour is seeing money pour into the local economy of every city she has visited so far.

"Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras’ tour is rewriting the playbook of entertainment economics,” said Chris Leyden, director of growth marketing at SeatGeek told CNN.

“She’s not just a performer - she’s an economic phenomenon.”

As per the data gathered by QuestionPro, the 862 people who participated in their survey spent an average of $291.62 (£229.49) on their outfits, $214.80 (£168.97) on merchandise and $131.48 (£103.43) for food and drink.

With The Eras Tour set to continue until November 2024, only time will tell.
