Coachella could be fined almost £30,000 after Lana Del Rey breaks key rule

Coachella could be fined almost £30,000 after Lana Del Rey breaks key rule

Lana Del Rey made one very expensive mistake

Coachella might seem like a place where anything goes, but there’s one certain rule that cannot be broken… unless you can afford to.

We're in the season that will see fans and musicians go wild and enjoy tunes well into the night for days on end - yep, festival season has officially begun.

Kicking off in the US with Coachella, summer is well and truly on the horizon and festival-goers just can't wait.

However, it's not always fun and games as there’s actually one golden rule at the California festival which, if broken, can lead to a hefty fine.

That’s what Lana Del Rey is about to find out.

After the festival concluded its second weekend, TMZ reported that the singer allegedly cost the festival around $28,000 (£22,658.72) for not following the rules during her set.

Okay, so let’s explain the rule before you get worried about whether it’s about the songs she can and can’t sing.

Really, it’s regarding the length of the set.

This makes sense as if a performer runs overtime, it will knock on to the next performer and so on.

According to the publication, the city of Indio charges Coachella quite a bit of cash for every minute that it goes over its 1am curfew.

Why is this bad for Lana Del Rey?

A representative for the City of Indio told TMZ that the singer’s set went over by 13 minutes.

Now, that’s a lot of money.

Even though it doesn’t sound like a lot of time, this really impacts the arrangement the organisers have with the city.

It was previously noted that City officials told the publication that as part of its agreement with Goldenvoice, the festival is charged a daily fine of $20,000 (£16,184.80) for the first five minutes past curfew.

Then it’s an additional $1,000 (£809.24) every minute after that.

However, Del Rey's fans are more than happy to take the singer for longer than they were promised and raved about her set.

In total, the 'Summertime Sadness' singer performed 19 songs, including a surprise performance from Camila Cabello who sang her new single, 'I LUV IT'.

What’s shocking is that the rep confirmed that this is the only fine so far from weekend two, so it’s not too bad for Coachella.

But if you thought this was the first time a singer caused a stir by going over the time, you’re wrong.

Last year, DJ Calvin Harris was named as one of the event's biggest acts as he performed for a crowd of more than 100,000 people.

He arrived 30 minutes late to the stage but made it up to fans with a performance like no other.

Let’s just hope there’s no other hitch!
