After months and months of waiting, HBO has finally thrown us a bone and told us when we can expect the new and final Game of Thrones season.

But instead of just giving us the date, they've also been kind enough to give us a look at the upcoming instalment with the first official trailer.

That's right folks, we will be able to feast our eyes on delicious Westeros action on April 14.

The teaser-trailer doesn't offer much in terms of spoilers for the season but it certainly gave us chills. It shows Jon Snow, Arya and Sansa Stark in the crypts underneath Winterfell where their ancestors have been buried. But they happen upon three statues that look identical to them before the room has the life sucked out of it - which can only mean one thing: White Walkers are heading south.

One thing fans definitely know about the final season is that it's only going to be six episodes long - however, before you get to upset the HBO CEO Richard Plepler has told audiences that each new episode is like 'watching a movie'.

Obviously, the man at the top has already had a look at the new series (lucky bastard) and told Variety in an interview: "It's a spectacle. The guys have done six movies. The reaction I had while watching them was, 'I'm watching a movie.'"

Now, if that doesn't get your mouths salivating, then what about this tidbit of information: the third episode will have arguably the largest battle in TV history.

The bloke who plays the dreaded Night King, Vladimir Furdik, has revealed that we are in for an absolute belter of a fight.

He told Hungarian website SorozatWiki: "In the third part of the last season, there is a battle that the creators intend to be the biggest in television history.

"Almost the full episode will be about the battle, it will take about an hour."

While Furdik unsurprisingly wouldn't confirm who's finally going to win the Iron Throne, he said: "It would be an amazing surprise, but I can tell you that there will be no shortage in Season 8."

He added: "There will be a lot of dragons, the Night King will return, and the biggest battle of the season will be completed."

We also got a small snippet of the power dynamics going on in season eight when HBO released a teaser showing moment Daenerys meets Sansa - which is always expected to be a true fire-meets-ice moment.

It shows Daenerys Targaryen, played by Emilia Clarke, approaching Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) in Winterfell - which we all know belongs to the Starks, and has been theirs for thousands of years.

There must've been some kind of deal brokered here because in the trailer Sansa is seen saying to Daenerys: "Winterfell is yours, your Grace."
