Friends star Courteney Cox reveals she ‘talks to’ Matthew Perry after his death

Friends star Courteney Cox reveals she ‘talks to’ Matthew Perry after his death

The pair acted side-by-side as Monica Geller and Chandler Bing for a decade on the beloved US sitcom.

Courteney Cox claims that her late Friend's co-star Matthew Perry still 'visits' her.

In October 2023, the actor was discovered unresponsive at his home in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, and pronounced dead at the scene, at age 54.

According to the autopsy, Perry's death was caused by ‘the acute effects of ketamine’.

Contributing factors also included the 'effects of buprenorphine, drowning and coronary artery disease', as per the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.

In the wake of Matthew’s untimely death, all of his Friends co-stars took to social media separately to pay their respects.

Courtney, 59, - who played his on-screen spouse Monica Geller - wrote: “I am so grateful for every moment I had with you Matty and I miss you every day.

"When you work with someone as closely as I did with Matthew, there are thousands of moments I wish I could share. For now here’s one of my favourites.

"To give a little backstory, Chandler and Monica were supposed to have a one night fling in London. But because of the audience’s reaction, it became the beginning of their love story.

"In this scene, before we started rolling, he whispered a funny line for me to say. "He often did things like that. He was funny and he was kind.”

In a new interview with CBS’ Sunday Morning programme, the mother-of-one has since opened up about the 17 Again actor for the first time since his death.

During the chat, which marked the 20th anniversary of the Friends finale broadcast, Courteney claimed that she is ‘visited’ by Matthew regularly.

"You know, he's just so funny. He has genuinely a huge heart, obviously struggled,” she began.

“I’m so thankful I got to work so closely with him for so many years. He visits me a lot, if we believe in that.”

When asked to elaborate on her connection to spirituality, the Scream star said: "I talk to my mom, my dad, Matthew. I feel like there are a lot of people that, I think, guide us.

"I do sense — I sense Matthew’s around for sure."

Meanwhile, she claimed that Perry was ‘probably one of the funniest human beings in the world’ and that he had a ‘huge heart’.

After Matthew’s death, Courteney worked to release a joint statement with Friends alumni Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc and Lisa Kudrow.

They wrote: “We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family.

"There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.

"In time we will say more, as and when we are able.

"For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world."
