Lindsay Lohan reveals the details of why she left Hollywood fame as she admits 'wanting to disappear'

What prompted her to step away from Hollywood, both physically and career-wise?

Lindsay Lohan has revealed why she turned her back on Hollywood, after growing up in the spotlight as a child star.

After a prolonged period away from the big screen, Lohan, 37, made her return to film with Netflix’s 2022 festive flick Falling For Christmas, a romantic comedy about a hotel heiress suddenly thrown into a simpler life after a skiing accident leaves her with no memory of her glitzy past.

Her next big Netflix movie comes from Irish Wish, which dropped on the streaming site today (15 March), while a third project called Our Little Secret also began production in January this year.

But what prompted her to step away in the first place?

In a new interview with Bustle, the actor discussed how she left Hollywood - both career-wise and physically, having moved to London before ending up in Dubai.

She felt the change was much-needed after realising her personal life was starting to become more interesting to press than her work.

“I feel like some of [my work] got overshadowed by paparazzi and all that kind of stuff when I was younger, and that’s kind of annoying. I wish that part didn’t happen,” she said.

“I feel like that kind of took on a life of its own. So that’s why I wanted to disappear.

“I was like, ‘Unless there’s no story here, they’re not going to focus on just my work.’”

While many people might have assumed Lohan left for Dubai to escape the paparazzi or even the wild partying lifestyle that she became infamous for, it turns out it was actually for something much simpler.

“I was like, ‘What if I never fall in love? What if this never happens?’” she continued.

“And it took me just taking time for me for all those doors to open and the ‘yeses’ to come - the things I wanted to say 'yes' to.”

Lohan’s now not only found love, marrying Bader Shammas in 2022, but she’s also become a mother.

The couple welcomed their first child - a boy named Luai, an Arabic name meaning ‘shield’ or ‘protector’ - in Dubai in July last year.

A rep for the star said in a statement at the time: "Lindsay Lohan and her Financier husband, Bader Shammas, welcomed a beautiful, healthy son named Luai.

"The family is over the moon in love."
