Brave reason why Emily Atack revealed gender of her baby as she also shares due date

Emily Atack has revealed her baby's gender - and she did so for a hugely brave reason.

Emily, who announced her pregnancy at the end of December, is expecting her first baby with boyfriend Alistair Garner.

The actor and comedian, 34, took to Instagram to share her happy news, explaining she's 'delighted'.

"I’ve never been so happy and utterly terrified at the same time," Emily wrote at the time.

"Every day is mixed with thrill, fear, joy, hysteria, topped off with a lot of vomiting - a bit like when you’ve just stepped off of the Oblivion at Alton Towers on a hangover.

"I’ve got to know my body on such an insane level. It’s made me appreciate the one I’ve been given SO much, I’m doing my absolute best to make it a home for the little squid I’m growing."

Fast forward a few months and Emily appeared on BBC Breakfast today (5 March) to discuss her new campaign about sexual consent.

Emily said she wasn't planning on 'revealing anything' about her baby during the interview, but decided in the moment that she would.

"I'm six months [pregnant] and I wasn't going to say this, but I am going to say this - I'm having a boy," she said.

"So I want him to be a part of a really positive change and I want him to grow up knowing he can talk about these things openly and enjoy his life. I want him to be on the right side of history."

After revealing more details, fans believe Emily could be due in early summer.

Emily is backing a campaign created by Right To Equality, which is trying to tighten the laws around affirmative consent.

In a post on her social media, she explained: "Ahead of International Women’s Day this week I’m pleased to be announcing my latest campaign, working with Right To Equality to push for affirmative consent to be in the law.

"The current approach to consent in the UK perpetuates harmful gender stereotypes and places a disproportionate burden on women to communicate their lack of consent.

"One in five think No can mean Yes when it comes to sex… this absolutely floored me.

"We need to start asking for consent, and asking for it now. No more ‘implied consent’ - only a Yes should mean Yes. That’s the Affirmative Consent standard and I’m asking for it."
