'Unheard: The Fred And Rose West Tapes' Takes Chilling Look At The Notorious Killers

The story of Fred and Rosemary West, two of Britain's most notorious serial killers, is one of the most spine-chilling cases in history.

The Wests, who lived in Gloucester in the English countryside until their arrest in 1994, were known to have killed at least twelve women who they buried under their patio, including their own children.

Now, a 12-part podcast hosted by the investigative journalist who broke major stories in the case will delve into the crimes of the gruesome couple.

Unheard: The Fred and Rose Tapes is hosted by Howard Sounes, one of the first reporters to break major stories on the murderous couple, working for the Sunday and Daily Mirror at the time.

In 1994, Howard received a tip-off call which pulled him into the case. As the case began to unravel, the reporter recorded his investigations, interviews and reflections on analogue cassette tape.

The recordings include interviews with family members of Fred and Rose West, those who knew the victims, and lodgers at 25 Cromwell Street - the setting of the grisly crimes - who managed to escape.

It is these never before heard tapes that he's sharing with the world in the upcoming true crime podcast, restored and digitally enhanced for the first time.

A release for the podcast by From Somethin' Else, reads: "Howard's tapes also give unprecedented insight into how a writer investigated and wrote the definitive account of one of the biggest crime stories of the twentieth century, the cold calls, the door-knocks, the breakthroughs and setbacks, and the moral dilemmas of getting an exclusive."

The couple were arrested in February 1994 after police found human remains and signs of torture at their home. When questioned by police, Fred admitted to killing at least thirty people, and Rose denied having any involvement.

While on remand, Fred killed himself and Rose went to trial, eventually being sentenced to life in prison.

The podcast will be available on all major podcast providers for 12 weeks from Tuesday 10th September.
