Netflix has just dropped an announcement on Instagram that Season 2 of Umbrella Academy is "coming soon".
At this point in time, we don't know how soon that actually is, but we're seriously excited for it.
The comic book series based on Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá's comics with the same name, amassed serious amounts of fans when Season 1 landed on Netflix.

In fact, Netflix revealed that 45 million households watched it. To put that into perspective, You and Sex Education amassed 40 million each.
Given the stats, it's no surprise a second season has been put into production.
What Happened In Umbrella Academy Season 1?

Season 1 of this dystopian superhero series that dropped back in February earlier this year, saw adoptees of a billionaire industrialist reunite after years of going their separate ways.
It follows the dysfunctional family with super powers facing an impending apocalypse, but who is also trying to uncover the mystery surrounding their adopted father's death. But what with facing the end of the world and battling with each other's personalities, they struggle to get it together.
The series ends with the moon falling down, yes we said the moon. This causes the apocalypse, so the siblings agree to go back in time to try and work better together to prevent it. Did you get all that?
Does Umbrella Academy Season 2 Have A Release Date?
Not yet. But with Netflix posting on Instagram that it's "coming soon" we're hopeful that it won't take too long.

The Instagram caption read: "just some good eggs taking a family selfie. Umbrella Academy s2 is coming soon".
However, we fear that this teaser snap might be a little premature because the cast only began filming back in June.
Plus, in an interview with Indiewire, show runner Steve Blackman said: "It takes us 18 months to do a season," so realistically we're not going to see it land on Netflix until the end of 2020, surely?
But maybe it took less time than anticipated.

Which Cast Members Will Be Returning For Umbrella Academy Season 2?
The good news is, all of the Hargreaves siblings will return. Aidan Gallagher is reprising his role as Number Five, Ellen Page as Vanya, Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison, Tom Hopper as Luther, David Castañeda as Diego, Justin H. Min as Ben and Robert Sheehan as Klaus.
Which New Cast Additions Will There Be In Umbrella Academy Season 2?

Ritu Arya, Yusuf Gatewood and Marin Ireland are all set to join the cast for Season 2.
Arya is known for her role in Humans and has been cast as Lila in Season 2. Gatewood however starred in Amazon's Good Omens and will play Raymond, whilst Ireland will play Sissy.
What Will Season 2 Of Umbrella Academy Be About?
At the end of the first season, Number Five uses his time-travelling abilities to save his siblings from the apocalypse, so we know that they've survived, at least. So Season 2 will obviously see them attempt to avoid the world being obliterated this time, firstly by dealing with their powerful sister Vanya.
Page who plays Vanya told Den of Geek: ""For me, it's going be so interesting to explore Vanya. It's like Vanya 2.0 - less repressed and what does that mean in the good ways and bad kinda thing".
But while the series draws inspiration from the comic books, it has already diverted, starting with the fact in the comic the siblings do manage to save the world. So we can't fully predict what will happen.
Blackman told The Hollywood Reporter: "I wanted this to really be the best of cliffhangers, in that you're like 'Wait, what? What happened?'
"It gives us a lot of openness and legroom to tell the best story we can next year.
"But yes, the apocalypse is not solved. They did not save the world, which is a slight alteration of the comic.
"To me, it was the right Netflix cliffhanger.
"You really want people to go into the off-season saying, 'I gotta know what happened,' and that will be revealed when - hopefully - you see season two."
Will There Be An Umbrella Academy Season 3?
Given the popularity of the show up until this point and the fact that Way and Bá have written three volumes of the comic, Apocalypse Suite, Dallas and Hotel Oblivion, with more in the making, it seems likely they will follow it through to another season at the very least.
Speaking to IndieWire earlier this year, showrunner Steve Blackman said: "I hope we get a second and third and fourth season, but I knew that having a great ending is important for Netflix as a streamer."
His wish has certainly come true so far and he is set to return as showrunner for the 10-episode season.
