New Martin Scorcese Film 'The Irishman' Starring Robert De Niro Is Coming To Netflix

New Martin Scorcese Film 'The Irishman' Starring Robert De Niro Is Coming To Netflix

While we're self-confessed true crime addicts, we do love to mix things up every now and again with a good gangster movie, so we're seriously excited that the first trailer for Martin Scorcese's latest project The Irishman has just been released by Netflix.

One of the most anticipated Original movies ever, the 76-year-old director has pulled together not one, not two, but four of Hollywood's greatest living legends for his $125 million (£102 million) mob epic. Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and Harvey Keiel all star in the blockbuster alongside an impressive female cast including by X-Men's Anna Paquin, Stephanie Kurtzuba and Kathrine Narducci, which will open the New York Film Festival in September 2019.

A film adaption of Charles Brandt's 2003 book I Heard You Paint Houses, the movie tracks the story of Jimmy Hoffa - the American labour union leader who 'mysteriously' went missing in 1975 - through the eyes of Frank Sheera, an alleged hitman from the Bufalino crime family.

The movie has long been a passion project for the filmmaker, who has been working towards bringing the Jimmy Hoffa (played by Al Pacino) story to the big screen for the last twelve years.

Sheera, aka 'The Irishman' who is played by Robert De Niro, has long been rumoured to be involved in the disappearance and murder of the notorious union kingpin.

A spokesperson for Netflix said: "Spanning decades, the film chronicles one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in American history, the disappearance of legendary union boss Jimmy Hoffa, and offers a monumental journey through the hidden corridors of organised crime: its inner workings, rivalries and connections to mainstream politics."

Sounds juicy.

This is the first time that Martin Scorsese has reunited with Robert De Niro since 1995's Casino, while it is his first time ever working with Al Pachino. Reportedly spanning a massive timeline with flashbacks going back as far as the '50s, we'll even get to see what our fave actors look like 30 years younger thanks to complex de-aging technology.

Netflix debuted a teaser for the movie during the Oscars earlier this year, so we have no doubt that it will be a huge hit for the streaming giant, with hopes it will take home an Academy Award.
