If you need some light relief in the summer that Boris Johnson became Prime Minister, look no further than new BBC comedy, Lazy Susan.
Named after eponymous comedy duo, made up of Freya Parker and Celeste Dring, the show sees their critically-acclaimed comedy stage show taken to the small screen as part of BBC's 2019 Comedy Shorts series.
The sketch show sees the duo take on a number of hilarious characters. There's Megan and Michaela who just "don't want any drama tonight" and "if it was her hen do or her 30th, they'd be all over it". Then there's Thomas and Sandrine the 'whimsical French woman, written by a man who's never met a woman'.
We've watched the first episode (now on iPlayer) and it's kind of like the 2019, female-led version of David Walliams and Matt Lucas's noughties hit, Little Britain (2003-2007), which is just perfect, obviously.
The BBC says of it: "Subversive, strangely universal, and most importantly, extremely funny - this is Lazy Susan's world and we're all just living in it."
Lazy Susan will run for 10 episodes, which are just 10-15 minutes long a piece, and will air on BBC Two and iPlayer.
The ladies behind Lazy Susan, Freya and Celeste said: "This is a really exciting opportunity for us. We're so glad that Amy Annette and Katie Churchill said yes when we proposed making it with them (on bended knee - as is customary in TV pitching). It's our best shot at capturing some of the essence of our live shows but reimagining it for telly / the internet.
"We've got a really great team around us - including ace director Jennifer Sheridan - so it really is a shame that we've already blown the entire budget on models and jet-skis."
Written by Freya and Celeste, the show is produced by Tiger Aspect production for BBC iPlayer.
Amy Annette and Katie Churchill, producers for Tiger Aspect said: "It's not every day a duo like Freya and Celeste come along. We think it's telling that every comedy fan and comedian who hears we're making this show gets very excited about it. We're delighted that, via the BBC, everyone will get a chance to meet Lazy Susan and their smart, silly and darkly funny world."
