This Morning viewers were left in tears as the group of Thai schoolboys stuck in a cave for 17 days hugged their rescuers live on air in humbling scenes.

Appearing on the ITV chat show along with their translator, the 12 boys thanked three British divers who were part of the team which rescued them from the cave in Northern Thailand in June earlier this year.

New show host Rochelle Humes branded the moment 'lovely', and viewers watching at home flocked to Twitter, sobbing over the touching scenes.

"#ThisMorning The interpreter getting emotional on the show and the hugs the boys gave their rescuers. Just wonderful. #AllTheTears," shared one person.

And another equally as moved viewer posted: "Loved this segment but I'm a blubbering mess properly sobbed when the translator cracked and also during the hugs the kids gave their rescuers."

"@thismorning That big group hug between The Wild Boars and the Divers who rescued them was special. A very beautiful thing to see, I'm all assunder after the whole segment. The Boys are fantastic I hope they have a wonderful time," echoed a third.

The boys, who are all big football fans, were given an extra special treat as they were shown personal video messages from a number of players.

England player Harry said: "I hear you've been enjoying your time here in England.

"Obviously we all heard what you went through, I heard that you're passionate about football, and I just wanted to tell you to keep it up, keep loving the game, it's great to have you back here safe and sound, so all the best from me and everyone at Tottenham and England as well."

The group of boys are visiting the UK, and became guests of honour at Manchester United's match against Everton at Old Trafford at the weekend.

This Morning continues on ITV on weekdays at 10.30am.
