New Netflix film The Legend of Cocaine Island will follow the true story of Rodney Hyden, who flew to a Caribbean Island to dig up $2 million stash of cocaine.

The Florida native went in search the white gold after falling into $1 million debt, confessing: "I am a dreamer, but I'm not a greedy person. I wanted to take care of my family."

In the film, which launches on the streaming service on 29th March, Rodney plays himself in the "Walter Mitty meets Breaking Bad" tale, as described by a judge.

The trailer for the docu-drama starts by telling viewers: "Northern fairy tales start off 'once upon a time...'

"Southern fairy tales start off, 'Y'allain'tgonna believe this sh*t'."

We watch Rodney as he moves from Gainsville to the sleepy town of Archer after the financial crash in 2007. There, he met Julian, a local hippy who claimed he'd found a stash of coke floating in the water in Culebra, a small island off Puerto Rico.

Not knowing that to do with his stash, Julian told Rodney how he'd buried it next to his house - where it remained for 15 years.

This is when Rodney comes up with the genius idea to go and dig up treasure, but hapless Rodney doesn't even pack a shovel.

In the film he explains: "I had nothing to dig with. No shovel, no nothing. I thought they were readily available anywhere - well, not in Culebra. There's no Walmart in Culebra."

Film director Theo Love told the Daily Mail: "Every interview started off just with laughter, because they were like, 'Yeah, this story is crazy'.

"Even the people who were a part of it were like, 'Yeah, we can't believe this whole thing happened the way it did'."

The Legend of Cocaine Island is set to land on Netflix on 29th March.
