The Haunting of Hill House's director, Mike Flanagan, is creating a sequel for Stephen King's The Shining.

The director's next job will be to oversee the adaptation of King's novel Doctor Sleep which is the sequel for The Shining.

It will be in cinemas from January 2020 and will star Ewan McGregor as a grown-up Danny Torrance - the son of Jack Torrance, who terrorised Danny and his mother in King's original novel and Stanley Kubrick's 1980 film.

Speaking about the adaptation, Flanagan said: "There is no version of the world where I am trying not to acknowledge one of the greatest films ever made. There's no upside in shying away from that reality.

"At the same time, this is not The Shining. It's its own story and in a very specific way. If you've read the book, you know exactly why it's so different but it's quite a tightrope that we're walking I think.

"I'm having a great time doing it. I'm just going to get the movie out and then turn off the internet for two weeks and see how it all goes."

Stephen King must be pretty happy about the choice of director as he has recently praised The Haunting of Hill House and described it as 'close to the work of a genius'.

Netflix

If you've not heard of Netflix's new horror series then where have you been?

The Haunting Of Hill House was released earlier this month, and is based on the 1959 novel of the same name by Shirley Jackson.

It is described as a slow-building horror, Mike Flanagan's adaptation follows five siblings who grew up in the famously spooky abode, and they are forced to return to the mansion and relive their nightmare all over again.

The series has already had viewers, passing out, vomiting and being too scared to sleep, so of course King is going to love it.

Speaking to his almost 5 million Twitter followers this week, Stephen shared: "THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE, revised and remodeled by Mike Flanagan. I don't usually care for this kind of revisionism, but this is great.

"Close to a work of genius, really. I think Shirley Jackson would approve, but who knows for sure."
