It was a hallmark of 90s British TV gameshows, and now Supermarket Sweep is returning to ITV2 - and it's being kinder to the environment, too.

Yes, the reboot - which is hitting screens on Monday 9th September - will be donating all products in the makeshift supermarket to food banks to reduce waste after filming.

Nice one, ITV!

New host Rylan Clark-Neal revealed the news that "All products are donated to food banks every few days," on his Twitter alongside other facts about the new series including that there will be 20 episodes on every week night.

In his tweet, the presenter also revealed Coronation Street actress Jennie McAlpine will be voicing the tannoy, there will be new checkout assistants, and the sweep will feature real products.

He also hinted there'd be "A few guests along the way." It was revealed this week that Love Island stars Maura Higgins and Tommy Fury would be appearing on the show, as well as This Morning hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes and stars from The Only Way Is Essex and Celebs go Dating.

Rylan also revealed the original show's inflatable items (which gained teams bonus points if they were collected) and coloured jumpers (which were worn by teams) will be making a comeback.

Supermarket Sweep is the gameshow that sees contestants running around a supermarket collecting items to win a cash prize. Production company Thames said the new show would feature "new games, challenges and a sprinkle of celebrity stardust," along with a "respectful nod" to the original 1990s version.

The revival will be catering to the modern viewer's wants and needs, and as well as being sustainable, it will reportedly incorporate modern technology that will reflect 21st century shopper's habits.

The original show was hosted by the late Dale Winton and ran between 1993 and 2001 before being revived briefly in 2007. The Reboot will feature a tribute to the show's original host, who died in 2018.

We can't wait for this.
