Viewers were left struggling to contain their emotions after Strictly Come Dancing's touching Remembrance Sunday dance routine, which paid tribute to Dame Vera Lynn.

Beginning with a backdrop of the White Cliffs of Dover before switching to the studio, and featuring footage of war veteran Captain Sir Tom Moore, the routine is a real tear jerker.

Watch for yourself here (you may need a few tissues):

Late Forces' Sweetheart Dame Vera passed away in June, aged 103. Famed for her timeless songs and visits to the front during the Second World War, her morale-boosting vocals live on.

On Sunday night's episode, the professional dancers took centre stage as they performed a moving routine to the late star's beloved wartime song We'll Meet Again.

The opening sequence plays against the grassy slopes and blue skies of Dover's white cliffs, with the dancers kitted out in period dress.

Next comes the studio routine, which celebrated former British army officerCaptain Sir Tom Moore - who raised more than £33million for the NHS during the coronavirus crisis - by playing video clips of the war veteran on a screen behind the dancers

Talking about the routine, show co-host Claudia Winkleman said: "Thank you for that beautiful tribute to Dame Vera Lynn on Remembrance Sunday."

Viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the powerful performance, which many said had left them in tears.
